President's Message - March 2010

Dear fellow C.P.I.O. Members:

On December 3, 2009, we had a great turn out to our meeting. I would like to thank all the members who attended for their participation and enthusiasm. We have a number of pressing issues that are brought to the forefront with regard to our industry such as:

  • New Registrar, Lisa Kool.

  • The Training and Testing Regulations are in place as of April 15, 2010.

  • The Ministry of Transportation has been completing audits.

  • The Privacy Commissioner has posted Surveillance Guidelines on the website and some PI companies have been subjected to pixilation rules as proposed by clients.

As we attempt to protect our businesses, we must now bind together as an organization of professionals to reach our industry goals.

We have posted the Ministry of Transportation Audit (ARIS) modules on our website for your review. Mr. Norm Groot has also spoke to the Ministry of Transportation and will offer some insight into these issues. The CPIO had a committee meet with Ms. Lisa Kool, the New Registrar in late February. Ms. Kool has agreed to speak to our organization at our Mid June Meeting. We discussed the issue of unlicensed agencies and a process of reporting such individuals, and reporting companies as well. Further discussions are scheduled prior to the June Meeting.

We will also have an insurer who is focused on Private Investigation Agency coverage for E&O who will available to assist our members. Our members may find it beneficial to discuss the pixilation process that some agencies are currently utilizing to satisfy clients.

Our April 8, 2010 AGM Meeting will be a tribute to Mr. William Urquhart who passed away in 2009. Mr. David Black will be the Master of Ceremonies in honor of Mr. Urquhart and his great contribution to the CPIO.

I have noticed that since becoming President that we are now bound together to fight our causes as an organization recognized as Professionals to our clients and the public. We encourage you to attend this meeting so that you will be well aware of the issues that we face.

We will continue our efforts together as an organization!!!

Regards,
Debbra Macdonald
President C.P.I.-Ontario.
