As a member of the CPIO since my early days as an investigator, I have been both an individual member and later an agency member. Originally the Council of Private Investigator – Ontario (CPIO) attracted me through the unlimited amount of information provided by the organization with regard to current and outstanding issues that our industry faced. The CPIO was an important component to my success as an Agency owner and Private Investigator. Through the Council, I was able to network with my peers, who have assisted in my growth in the industry.
As the current President since March of 2008, with the newly elected board, we are delighted to represent our industry through the Council. As a board, we have elected to focus the first year of our two year term on communication with our membership. We have revamped our website and enhanced security measures and password protected some of our documents that will be shown as secure and private for members only. Our mandate for the second year of our term is to populate the website with articles of interest and to keep you all aware of issues that could affect your business and private investigators. We strive to bring the CPIO into the future with confidence and clear communication with our members.
Our mandate is to build a strong organization through recruiting with clear concise messages been sent to our members so that we are all aware of the current issues we face. Awareness will become a clear necessary part of our mandate. Presently we face issues with the Ontario Privacy Commissioner (OPC) and access to accounts with the Ministry of Transportation. Although we successfully gained designation through PIPEDA, the OPC has already drafted guidelines that could adversely affect your flow of work. Also be aware that our access to Ministry of Transportation documents is under review. So as an industry it is extremely important that we band together to fight for our rights and businesses.
Under the leadership of our current board, we will all be able to communicate and provide updates on these issues at hand through the new website. There will be passwords issued as our sensitive information will be only available to those who are members. If you are searching for a Private Investigator, our clients will be able to find your company and confirm your membership with the CPIO. We are setting a deadline for January 30, 2008 for Agency, Individual and Associate membership to register.
We welcome you to check it out at
http://www.cpi-ontario.com. This website ushers in a new era of communication amongst Agency owners and Private Investigators. It will also provide a great opportunity to advertise businesses and post classified advertisements as well.
I would like to encourage anyone not a member to join. Also agency members please inform your investigators about the CPIO as there are sound reasons for being a member of an organization that represents our industry solidly. The benefits for agencies, individual PI’s and especially the industry are enormous.
Thanks in advance,
Debbra Macdonald
President,
Council of Private Investigators - Ontario
