The Council of Private Investigators-Ontario is an Ontario non-profit corporation whose purpose is to serve the interests of licensed private investigators in the province. It was formed in 1994, taking over and modifying the charter of the Association of Investigators and Guard Agencies, which had been established in 1965. All directors and officers are volunteers, their primary career being as private investigators. Activities of the Council include:

- Representation to the regulators of private investigators in Ontario, the Private Investigator and Security Guard Section of the Ministry of the Solicitor General and Correctional Services.
- Publication of "Investigator’s Journal, a quarterly newsletter devoted to matters of interest to Private Investigators. Significant articles are posted to this web-site.
- Maintains a web site k/a www.cpi-ontario.com which keeps the industry informed about developments which may affect private investigators.
- Representation to federal regulators in connection with privacy legislation.
- Periodic informational and professional development seminars which also afford opportunity for networking with other private investigators.
- Securing discounts and special packages with suppliers of goods and services required by Private Investigators.
